Jar Addiction

Feb 1, 2013 by

My jar addiction began a year ago when I found these 2 blue ball jars.  My fascination with jars quickly grew when I discovered that if I put healthy items in the jars like nuts, quinoa, oats, rice (ignore the peanut m&m’s) I would be more likely to grab for a jar of nuts than a bag of crackers or chips.  It just shows how Im a sucker for a beautiful display (marketer at heart).  Another jar display I have at home is my diy mason jar organizer that I store q-tips, cotton balls etc in (step by step directions included).

My uncle found out about my love of old jars and has been quick to add some cool pieces to my collection- Thanks Scott!

Snapshot of part of the collection.  Today the jars are hidden away in a cupboard- cant wait till I have an exposed shelf to show off my collection!  In the mean time I will continue pinning jar displays to Pinterest on my kitchen board.  Below are a couple of my favorites.

I love how the jars add a splash of color to what would be a boring part of the kitchen.

Shades of Blue – Apartment Accents

Jul 1, 2012 by

The littlest decorations around the apartment are always my favorite.

I love finding pieces with a lot of character or  a story.  When not shopping in my families basements or at thrift shops, my favorite place to find fun apartment pieces is Anthropologie. They always have an assortment of fun, sometimes silly, accents for the home.  It is quite easy to get carried away there so I try to stick with items that have a purpose in the house and are not just a decoration.  Here are a few of my favorite new additions to the apartment:

I am obsessed with these rock coasters

Every tea lover needs jars to hold their loose leaf tea.

This is currently my favorite piece at the apartment, however I’m not entirely sure how to make it useful.  My uncle gave me this amazing peanut container when he discovered my obsession for jars and antiques.  I was originally planning on using it as a flour jar, but it wont fit in my pantry… So until i figure out what to use it for it will sit above my kitchen cabinets for all to see.

Mason Jar Organizer

Jul 10, 2011 by

I love anything that gets items off the counter and is still easy to access for everyday use.  Other then the drilling this DIY is quite simple.  I wish I would have spent time searching for fun antique mason jars but I wanted to get this project done before the big move to my apartment so I bought these at Walmart.

Marterials

  • 4 Mason jars
  • 4 Hose clamps
  •  4 Screws
  •  A board
  • Stain/paint
  • Ruler
  • Hammer
  • Pliers
  • Paint brush
Stain/paint the board.  Then measure the board into 4 separate sections and mark where you want the screw for each jar to be.
Screw the hose clamp onto the jar and mark where you want to make the hole for the screw.   Remove the hose clamp from the jar and use a drill to make a hole in the clamp in order to easily drill the clamp onto the board.
Screw the hose clamps onto the board.  The easiest thing to do if the screw sticks out the back of the board is to hit the back of the nail that is sticking out with a hammer up and then hit it down.  Next take pliers and twist it back and forth until it falls off. Once the hose clamps are in place you can tighten them around the jars.
