Jeweler’s Chest Turned Jewelry Box

Sep 6, 2011 by

When it comes to organizing jewelry I have tried everything from hanging jewelry on nails, ice cube trays, several small bowls, various jewelry boxes and a hanging jewelry organizer.  Every time my jewelry has ended up tangled, hidden, lost, broken or it takes up too much space.  It was time for something customized  so when I found this old jewlers chest tucked away in the back of my basement I knew it was perfect for storing my jewelry today.

My grandfather, who was a watchmaker, made the jeweler’s chest and must have worked at it for many years. I love the idea of making it into something that I will use everyday.

Supplies

  • Liner (I used easy liner)
  • Black foam board
  • Exacto knife
  • Ruler
  • Scissors
  • Clear super glue

Directions

Measure the drawer and cut liner to fit. Then glue it into place for each drawer.  You could also use wrapping paper or decorative paper.  Measure the depth and height of the drawer and cut foam board or wood  to size.  Cut as many dividers as needed, I used 9 or 10 per drawer.  Make sure to cut slow and use a new blade for clean lines. Glue dividers to liner with a clear super glue and let dry for a few hours before creating a new home for your jewelry.

Cut as many dividers as needed, I used 9 or 10 per drawer.  This is the most time consuming part of the DIY so get comfortable!  Make sure to cut slow and use a new blade for clean lines.  This is the most time consuming part of the DIY so get comfortable!

Mason Jar Organizer

Jul 10, 2011 by

I love anything that gets items off the counter and is still easy to access for everyday use.  Other then the drilling this DIY is quite simple.  I wish I would have spent time searching for fun antique mason jars but I wanted to get this project done before the big move to my apartment so I bought these at Walmart.

Marterials

  • 4 Mason jars
  • 4 Hose clamps
  •  4 Screws
  •  A board
  • Stain/paint
  • Ruler
  • Hammer
  • Pliers
  • Paint brush
Stain/paint the board.  Then measure the board into 4 separate sections and mark where you want the screw for each jar to be.
Screw the hose clamp onto the jar and mark where you want to make the hole for the screw.   Remove the hose clamp from the jar and use a drill to make a hole in the clamp in order to easily drill the clamp onto the board.
Screw the hose clamps onto the board.  The easiest thing to do if the screw sticks out the back of the board is to hit the back of the nail that is sticking out with a hammer up and then hit it down.  Next take pliers and twist it back and forth until it falls off. Once the hose clamps are in place you can tighten them around the jars.
